About Xander
Xander was born with Cerebral Palsy and spent his entire life in a wheelchair, meaning he knew no ‘normal’ life. Mum, Justine, and Dad, Clarke, did their best to give Xander everything they could for as long as possible. Because of the CP, horse riding was a great way to help stretch his tight muscles and mimic walking, something he’d never be able to do.
Xander started riding when he was 3 and kept riding until after his ninth birthday. He was one of those kids that always had a smile on his face no matter what was happening. The centre staff have a fond memories of him laughing his head off when Finn thought a pole on the ground was a 60cm jump and launched. Dusty almost lost Xander off the side but he thought it was the most fun and we spent the rest of the lesson trying to make Finn jump again.
About the Award
After his passing, Tiffany, our previous centre manager, together with Justine worked together to honour his memory. At the end of 2021 our first Xander Petrick Scholarship was awarded.
The Xander Petrick Scholarship supported by The Petrick Family and RDA Alice Springs funds the ongoing lesson fees for 2 riders each year.
